Print Spooler doesn’t work but Printing Directly works

Been in the business a long time but this one has me stumped. I’ve tried new drivers, new printers and I can’t get my print spooler to work. When I try to use the spooler it says device not found yet when I click the “Print Directly To Printer” it works fine. I can’t even remember all the tools, fixes, tricks I’ve tried in the last 3 months. I’ve reloaded XP already and obviously it’s not overwriting the files needed to fix the problem.
