Printer defaults ignored

The default color option “color” on a Magicolor 2350 network printer does not carry over to an XP workstation except for MS Office apps. All other apps show the default for this printer as “color = none”, ie greyscale.
2000 Pro w/s behaves correctly for all apps.

Workgroup network, 2000 Server, 2000 Pro w/s, one XP Pro w/s. XP Pro w/s user has administrator priviledges, standard install.
