Project free tv on Ubuntu

I cut the cord on cable a while ago. Because of this, I have been looking for other options to watch shows. Project free tv seemed okay, but after reading some reviews, I decided I should run it on Ubuntu. My question is: If my Linux partition becomes infected, will it affect Windows 8 on the other partition? Also, Does using Linux is this situation decrease your chances of becoming infected?
