Question about running a game

I have recently bought an older game which I now found out has to be run on Win 95 or in DOS. I am currently running Windows XP Home Edition, and would like to know if anyone has any tips on how to get my game to run. I have already tried to create a DOS startup disk on a floppy and my computer simply refuses to do it. Any suggestions?
