Re-installed Internet Explorer 6 keeps crashing or closing down.
(Before i installed my card, i had SP2)
Hello everybody, my problem started recently with my Windows XP pc. i believe it started when i purchased a Nvidia GPU card. its completely compatible with my motherboard. i was able to install the card. I contacted the motherboard manufacturer and they said i could just plug and play the card, no need for me to disable the intel chipset onboard. so thats what i did. After i had my PC up and running again, i proceeded to update the Drivers for the card. i visited the card’s and nvidia’s site for the updates. After installation, i restarted my PC. But the monitor blacked out after about 2 seconds after the the desktop was shown. i restarted again and it still persisted. i did this for about 4 hours, hoping that the PC would boot itself out properly. because in those four hours, i managed to keep the monitor open until i restarted again. Feeling the worst, i decided to Boot up my pc from the cd-rom and re-install windows xp home. everything went well with the install, but i found out that all the upgrades that i had done when i first bought my pc were gone. i did not have SP2, my media player went back to version 9 and IE went back to 6. i just thought, no problem, i’ll start from scratch again and update everything. i have time. but no, Now i am having this problem where-in IE6 is closing itself out if i attempt any download, be it from the Microsoft Update and Download dite, from TechRepublic’s, and out of Desperation, i had considered downloading Firefox. but alas, IE6 is only good for viewing websites. T_T ….
Also the automatic download icon is always present in my taskbar, because it had detected two updates (Security Update for Windows XP with Windows Media Format Runtime 9.5 and 11 (KB941569)
Windows Internet Explorer 7 for Windows XP) which are just the things i need but sadly it said the updates were not installed for the upteenth time. sigh., I just cant find the exact soulution in the Microsft troubleshooting sitealso.
Currently i have Windows SP3, but i noticed that in the control panel, remove or add programs, SP3 is only showing as 19.63 MB. hmm. in the microsft sites and other download sites, its showing as 316 MB plus. so now im stuck with what i have and cannot upgrade to the needed components for my Windows OS and IE. my only comfort is my Norton 360 ver2.0. and Everybody out there, please advise.. thanks so much.
