I seem to have closed the previous thread prematurely. I am seeking additional responses to this question:
Our experience shows that, after about a year on the average, computers with NT Workstation need to be rebuilt. We feel this is caused by normal wear and tear, improper shutdowns, excessive fragmentation, etc. This condition is “common knowledge” to the tech-grunts, but our boss was surprised when I mentioned it at the last staff meeting. He asked me to get him outside documentation on the phenomena.
What I’m looking for is other people’s experiences with how long a NT4 Workstation lasts before it must be rebuilt. I believe he wants to use this for planning data. All responses are welcome, and I would particularly like to hear from shops with 200 to 600 computers.
We use GHOST to rebuild these computers, so down time is about an hour, depending on what additional software must be installed.
