Recommendations for training and employment

Well guys and gals, here is my dilemma,I have over 30 years hands on experience with PC’s. For the last 12+ years I have been working for a food service POS dealer. I have no formal certification but I am studying for my Comptia A+. After I get this certification, which way should I go. I had one friend suggest that I drop the A+ and only go with vendor specific training, (cicso, vmware, etc.) What do you think and suggest?
