Recovering hard drive data.

My desktop computer recently crashed (the processor packed in) and I can’t afford to replace it. I’ve removed the hard drives, but I need the data stored on them. Could anyone tell me of a way to get the data from them using my laptop? For some reason, my other desktop wouldn’t accept them when I connected them.
