removable media drive not accessible -2

by jsjatvolian . Updated 21 years, 7 months ago

I’m posting this to document how I solved my problem of not being able to read any removable media (CD, Digital Camera, Floppy disk, memory card reader, etc).

I was running with Windows 2000 Professional. Decided to upgrade to XP to see if that alone would solve my problem. Well it didn’t.

Turns out that one of our computers at work (also a windows 2000 computer) had the same problem. so I compared what my computer and the work computer have in common.

Nero CD software. So I first removed the InCD software. Well I lucked out, that was it. That was causing all of my problems. Today I verified the fix with the work computer. Removing InCd fixed it as well.

So that was the cause of the problem. I have not checked to see if there was a new version of InCD, so I don’t know if a new version would also fix the problem.

A note about the work computer, it’s actually running Windows 2000 Server. We could not read any CDs, or floppies. And we could not do a Disk Defrag. Removing InCD fixed all of these problems.

Hope this information helps any one else who runs across this or a simular problem.

Thanks to all of you for your suggestions and helping me to trouble shoot this problem.
