Remove Windows 7 from a dual-boot configuration with the Bootsect command?

by badgez . Updated 15 years, 1 month ago

Hi all from a newbie,

I have just watched:

Remove Windows 7 or Vista from a dual-boot configuration with the Bootsect command

I cannot follow the instructions because I do not have a Windows 7 CD as I downloaded it from Microsoft when it was available pre-release.

I downloaded it to a slave HDD, which I have now removed from the PC.

The dual boot option is still showing up and if I am too slow, the PC reverts to Windows 7 option.

I have altered the boot.ini to read:
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS=”Microsoft Windows XP Professional” /FASTDETECT

from:
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS=”Microsoft Windows XP Professional” /FASTDETECT /NOEXECUTE=OPTIN

but this has not made any difference to the dual boot option appearing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. If the solution appears somewhere else on the site, I apologise because I only registered today.

Thanks in anticipation.
