Removing file type restrictions

by dgnoelte50 . Updated 25 years, 9 months ago

Windows 98 SE operating system.

Microsoft has made dealing with registered file types difficult by disabling many of the
options for the most critical file types. As
a result I’m supposed to be unable to use the
Edit and Remove buttons for the MS-DOS Batch
File, Application, or MS-DOS Application file
types because they’re all disabled.
I have gotten around the restriction for
the MS-DOS Batch file and MS-DOS Application file types by drilling down in the registry to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\batfile and
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\comfile and changing the “EditFlags” value to “00 00 00 00”. This enables the edit and remove buttons for those types.
Question???
What entries must I change to enable those buttons for “Application”(extension=exe) file types?
