Renaming \USER directory & keep settings

by techrepublic . Updated 21 years, 8 months ago

I have a user, let’s call him bob. He’s paranoid about having his profile directory named c:\documents and settings\bob234323421. He just wants it to be c:\documents and settings\bob

The number is after his name because we restored his profile to the PC and the number happens to be his MAC addres.

If I just rename the folder to “bob” from “bob234323421” then next time he logs-out his profile will be recreated and his settings, shortcuts, etc. will all need to be moved over manually.

Is there a way to change this directory name without requiring him to recreate his profile or is there just an easy way to do this?
