Repairing damaged files

Can anyone tell me how you would repair a damaged file from a floppy disk?
This keeps on happening at work and although sometimes I can manage to repair the file with Scandisk… most of the time I can’t.
I think people tend to take their disks out of the machine before it’s had a chance to be saved but unfortunately I can’t prove that 🙂
Does anyone know of any free downloadable software or can help solve the problem?
Files tend to be word or excel files.
