Replacement for MS Works

I used Works for years without a problem, now on my Windows 7 machine I can only buy Ms Office or use Open Office. Open Office has worked fine but it has started crashing every time I try to use it. I have reloaded OO several times, tried alternate download sites but nothing helps. I don’t need all the bells and whistles that are in OO or MS Office. Theit must be a simpler solution for my write and spread sheet needs.
