Reporting to peer

by z93007 . Updated 23 years, 6 months ago

I have recently joined a mid-size pharma co. We have two tracks, Technical, and Management. I’m in the Tech track. , and the title is ‘Sr. tech. Consultant’ which is equivalent to Manager level. The Director is a great guy. He has four managers reporting to him. I am at the same level as those managers. However, I report to one of the managers instead of the Director. I feel that I have good technical and interpersonal skills, and I should be reporting to the Director. Also, my title the title is misleading and does not carry the weight as other managers have theirs (e.g. Project Manager). May be it is my ego but shouldn’t I be visible to the upper mgmt? I feel that I should be measured by the Director instead of the peer manager. (it is like instead of the teacher, the student giving grade to other student!)

What are your suggestions? Should I accept this situation, or how diplomatically find a way out from this?

Thanks in advance,
