I recently converted my FAT16 partitions to FAT32
in WIN98SE to prepare for upgrading from a 13 GB
HDD to an 80 GB HDD. As required, I reinstalled
WIN98SE after converting my C:\drive to FAT32.
Bad move. Now, I run out of resources after a few
mouse clicks. I also note that I am getting a
long beep just after the first Windows 98 splash
screen occurs on bootup. I have run Memtest and
my 512 MB of memory is fine. Have tried default
BIOS settings with no success. It seems as
though WIN98 is not creating a swap file or is
not clearing memory buffers after each operation. Emergency startup disk works fine
with no long beep, so I assume the BIOS is seeing
something it does not like when WIN98 starts.
My system uses an Award BIOS on an Asus MOBD with
an AMD XP 1600+ processor. Any ideas would be
greatly appreciated.
