RTF Data on Access Report

I am trying to create an Access report from Access tables that are linked to SharePoint data. I have no problem getting the data I want in a query, but then when I go to format the query results in an Access report I have a problem with some of the results because they contain tags, etc. i.e. the data in the Access field is in RTF and rather than ‘interpretting’ the tags, etc, the report fields prints them as if they were part of the text. I thought there should be an easy way to convert this or deal with it, but I have yet to find anything. Any suggestions? I’m stumped, but then again, I’m a mainframe programmer, so maybe I just don’t know what to do.
