Scripted FTP Under UNIX

I’m trying to find out how to script an FTP session so that I can run this as a script file without operator intervention. I only require to log on to a remote server, possibly change directory, put a file to the remote system and close the session.The script will be run from Micro Focus COBOL running on SCO UNIX via the SYSTEM command.
