Server ReBoots, How can I find out why

by dlm . Updated 25 years, 9 months ago

I have Win NT Server 4.0 – SP6a – PDC. My server keeps rebooting itself at random. I am not on site all the time, so I don’t have a whole lot of info on the actual re-boot, I know it has happened because my CPU goes up to 90%-100% utilization due tore-mirroring of the drives. Anyway, I have one BDC, 4 NT 4.0 WS’s, and 20 win98 stations. The PDC runs 2 network printers, and a Geographix program. I also have a problem with Syncronization between the PDC and the BDC. I know what needs to be done to resolve this issue, however, I receive tons of sync errors in the event viewer of the BDC(I think it’s Event ID 5731..I don’t have any of my notes with me..)I receive the same amount of entries on the PDC that say the sync was successful and x-number of changes has been returned to the caller. (Event ID 5711) My question is, Does anyone know how I can go about determining why the PDC is re-booting itself? Can a bad network card on the network cause the server to re-boot? could it be when someone tries to print? could it be the sync problem?
how about a hardware problem…
Is there a monitor that I can use…PerfMon, NetMon…?
I have already ruled-out the GEO program as the problem.
Since this description is sooo long, and since I really need to resolve this problem, I am offering 2500 points for the answer that helps me reach a conclusion, and I will be honest! I will continue to research myself, and will post if I resolve.
Thank You all
