Should a Static IP Address or Reserved DHCP Address be used?

What is considered the best practice for a non-domain network of about 12 PC’s and about 5 printers as far as IP address assignments? Do assigning static address have a benefit over reserving an IP assignment in the DHCP, or the other way around? I know that both methods accomplish the same thing, that is keeping an address fixed to the hardware, but is there something that makes one method preferred over the other?
