showicon notoficationarea whenconnected

I would like to know a way to set the show icon in notofication area when connected using a script – ie via a program, which I want to include as a part of install routine/procedure for internet configuration setup, whci is done via a .ins file ( is used to set default homepage, proxy server settings ).
Any code sample or url links is much appreciated
