Slow start up

I got a brand new Dell PC(3GHZ CPU, 1Gig Ram, 160Gig HD, system allocated virtual mem, XP SP2)
Up until recently, I didnt have many problems when starting up the computer. But in the last couple of weeks, it has become painfully slow. It gets as far as loading the wallpaper, then it takes about 2-3 minutes before the desktop icons.
I’ve run disk cleaner, defrag, adaware, norton antivirus. I’ve also disabled all services that are not from microsoft. But still it takes two-three minutes.
From reading other things, profiles we’re mentioned, but I’ve only got one profile set up on the computer, so the pc defaults to that one on startup. Is there things I could do to the default profile maybe that would speed up things if it is the problem?
