SQL Server 6 to 7

I am running a 16-bit VB application to feed data into a SQL 6 database. We want to upgrade the database to v7.0, and this was achieved on an identical machine.
When they run side by side with the same data to be inputted, the SQL 7 operation takes1.5 times longer than the SQL 6.
Does anyone have any ideas why?
