stuck in safe mode with error message

Acer laptop stuck in safe mode and saying file missing : ,\system32\ntoskrnl.exe. this happened while installing XP home edition version 2002 so I do have authentic CD. How can I get it either out of safe mode or where it lets me type in a command….now I’m stuck in blue screen saying run chkdsk /f but can’t get off blue screen
