stuck on blue screen

Was trying to install xp home edition 2002 and now stuck on blue screen with message a problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. Goes on to say I need to run chkdsk /f but I Can’t get it off blue screen. I do have authentic xp cd
