sudden surge in disk usage

Hi All:

I notice one of the server disk space have been drop to 6%, but I could not find any file or data that take up the space. 1 hour later, the harddisk space sore up to optimum level.

How could I check does any application or any execute command running on backend that temporary consume the disk space?
