Surge Protector for ISP Coaxial Cable?

by emack85 . Updated 8 years, 4 months ago

I have my ISP’s coaxial cable that comes up from the floor plugged directly into my modem. I didn’t run it through the in/out lines on my surge protector and I removed the splitter that was originally installed to save space behind my rack.

Am I at any risk of a surge coming through the coax cable, going into the modem then through connected Ethernet cables to other decodes? I have the modem’s AC hookup to a surge protector, so I’m not too worried about that, but I feel like the coax cable is vulnerable.

Do splitters offer any type of surge protection? I wondered if that’s why Comcast put one on the coax able coming out of the floor when I only buy internet from them, meaning I didn’t really need the line to be split for cable service.
