Switching sides from being contracted to being employed by the same company

What to do? How do you create a win/win situation for both the vendor and the vendor’s customer? Legally, there is no non-compete clause between us, but I still want to do the right thing.

Here’s the story: I have contracted with a company who has assigned a highly skilled IT staffperson to our company on a full-time basis for at least the last 12 months. Now this person wants to change sides and work full-time for us. It would be foolish to turn this person down, but there is an equally important matter of continuing and maintaining a good business relationship with this company. We certainly need and can afford the new position, since we are essentially paying a higher price for this person anyway.

It’s a “win/win” situation — We win because we get the same service at a much reduced cost … and although the vendor looses a staffperson, they win by gaining an inside support champion for future support and project bids.

I want to consider all the risks and benefits, both short and long term.

What does a IT Manager do? Any thoughts and/or real-life experiences would be much appreciated.
Thanks. “TORN”
