taskbar program icons behaving oddly

I have just installed a wireless card in my PC and although it probably has nothing to do with it I find my taskbar program icons now act oddly. I used to click on them and the program appeared. Now the turn blue, flash for a while and I have to click about 3 times before I get the program up

Any help much appreciated. (Incidentally the wireless card doesnt start automatically – I have to manually do a scan with the configuration utility)
