TechRepublic recommended downloads identified as Malware

In the last few days, I have downloaded “no-charge” programs from TechRepublic recommendations. My anti-virus software, ESET Nod32 has quarantined these downloads as a “variant of Win32…/adware……..”. I cannot find out what this unwanted program/malware is and wondered why TechRepublic is hosting it. Is it a potentially unwanted program (PUP) or relatively benign?
