The Future of SQL?

A client of mine is considering replacing one MS SQL-based ERP system with another. He told me that one source he spoke to mentioned to him that SQL-based vendors are moving their software to other DB platforms. I was surprised by this assertion. Has anyone had negative experiences with SQL or is aware that a movement away from SQL exists? Thanks you your feedback.
