There is a way to Teardown a MyTouch 4G and change the 3G hardware?

Hi, I live in Santo Domingo and I got an MyTouch4G. This great Android 2.2.1 device with 4G capabilities can only use EDGE here. Yes I was wrong on the selection process and got a wrong info from androphones.com about device’s compatibility with the 3G network here.
GSM 3G band of Claro here is 850, and as I can read in T-mobile’s Specs, MyTouch4G uses GSM 1700 for this purpose.

So, I was thinking: In tech republic they teardown every great device, maybe they know a way to change the default 3G Band.
