Toshiba Satellite E205 wont let you change OS

I bought a new Toshiba Satellite last week, and I want to dual boot windows 7 and ubuntu or some linux. When I tried to load ubuntu it got to the install screen then froze, I tried installing SUSE, and Debian also, and while doing that I found that once you get to the point where you click install, then suddenly the dvd drive and the networking card, and the usb ports seem to just disappear, I looked on the toshiba web site someone else was complaining about the samething happening when they tried to install windows xp any help would be appreciated!!!!
