A customer is currently running WIN 98SE on a
4 year old PC. I am building him a new PC, which
will have a fresh install of WIN XP HOME on it,
eventually upgraded to SP2.
To avoid reinstalling all his applications and
files on the new PC, which is going to take a
very long time, I would like to try to merge his
old hard drive onto the new one, but maintain the
integrity of the fresh WIN XP HOME install as much
as possible.
Should I first upgrade his old operating system
to WIN XP HOME and then use a utility such as
Acronis Migrate Easy to copy everything from his
old hard drive to the new one?
Would using Acronis True Image be a better bet?
Am I stuck with the option of installing his old
hard drive with the WIN XP HOME upgrade on it as
a slave drive and then addressing it from the new
drive? Any reason to go with dual boot here?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
