Transfering Files and settings of multiple users in XP Pro

by ga.solutions . Updated 15 years, 11 months ago

I had this happen on my own system and thought it worth asking.

I was trying to transfer files and settings on my new system (without going into a big deal…my daughter had inadvertently brought in a virus & spyware problem…and Yes I did software for this issue, but I have yet found anything that stops EVERYTHING!)
So I had to transfer my stuff and my wifes stuff over, both of our logins are password protected, and I was logged into my side and used the “Files & Settings Transfer Wizard” program… Thinking that I was going to have EVERYTHING transfered to my external hard drive.

Upon finishing up with the reformat and installation of my XP Pro OS and my programs and updates, I checked used the wizard again to transfer the stuff back into my tower…. after that I found all of my stuff like I hoped I would, but when my wife logged in NONE of her stuff had been pulled over.

Here’s my question…. Does a person have to have the password for every person on a multiple user computer, or is there a program that will transfer ALL the files and settings over without having the passwords of the other users on the system in question.

(just so it is known…I did have my wife’s password, but did not think I had to log in on her side and do the same thing.)

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Gene
