TSRs in Windows NT

What is the concept of TSRs in Windows NT environment. What is the way to Write Background Processes and Windows NT Services which reside in memory for example Explorer.exe runs continueously and is not displayed on the Taskbar but is visible in thetaskmanager(Processes Tab).
