typing – appears as CTRL key is stuck

When working in any Office application suddenly it appears as if the CTRL key is stuck. Can’t type anything and when you move arrows or cursor it highlights all text. No out of ordinary processes or virri. Only way to fix is to reboot.
Have replaced keyboard to no avail. Bosses’PC – IDEAS??
