Ok, I have never liked Linux but am again trying to keep an open mind and try it out.
Over the years, it has definitely improved signficantly and so I’m going to give it another shot.
I received my CD’s in the mail today for Ubuntu 6.06 and thought I’d give it a try as it got such rave reviews.
However, I’m already stuck. I got the Live CD going and clicked on Install to install it to the hard drive.
Problem is this…on the very first screen to install to the hard drive (selecting a language) I only have 640X480 resolution and can’t see the bottom (or for that matter the top) of the screen.
I have selected English but now can’t get to the next screen. I can’t see a Next or Continue or whatever it is to get to the next screen.
I am a little disappointed already as granted this is an older PC (my test machine) but surely the makers of Ubuntu would of thought in advance that not all video cards would be recognized and would only get 640X480.
Knowing that, the setup screens weren’t thought out all that well in advance. There is no Next button for me to move on to the next screen.
But I won’t give up. Just need your help to get to the next screens to do the install. Hoping that when fully installed my video card will be recognized or at least I’ll have more tools at my disposal to install the video card driver.
Again, I’ve heard great reviews of this version of Ubuntu and am hoping (to be brutally honest) that some of my Linux disliking will be addressed.
Supposedly, this version of Ubuntu is for the typical home user like me that doesn’t know anything about Linux (I’m a power user of Windows only).
How do I get to the next screen and/or fix my resolution issue?
