Unable to Install MS Office 2007/2010

Ive got a friend who has a pioneer netbook with Windows XP SP3 installed. We have been trying to install MS Office 2007 and 2010(trial version) on the laptop but after approx. 10 minutes of waiting it comes up with an error message. I downloaded the MS office 2010 Trial version off the microsoft website a tried a few time but has been comming up with the error message.
