unable to pick sound device.

I have an Acer pc running 98. I recently encountered a problem where i lost sound so i decided to reinstall the driver. I did so three times and everytime, when i have just logged on, after it has picked the new device and installed, i proceed to try and play something and upon doin so, i am told that i do not have a sound card installed. I reboot and reinstall the driver, even updated drivers and yet i get the same result.

Somebody please help me…..i’m confused at the moment
