unable to ping hosts on routers external interface subnet

by dixman . Updated 12 years, 4 months ago

Hi, I have set up a network like this:
hostA —- ——————-fa03switchAGi1—–Ge0/1RouterGe0/0—–unmanaged switchB—–hostB
host = 192.168.3.10/24
fa03 = 192.168.3.1/24 ip of vlan 3
Gi1 = 192.168.10.2, trunk with vlan 3
Ge0/1=192.168.10.1
Ge0/0=192.168.1.8
host = 192.168.1.5

now i can ping/tracert from host B to host A.
i can ping/traceroute from switchA to host B
i can ping/traceroute from router 192.168.1.8 to hostB 192.168.1.8
i can ping from host A to192.168.3.1, 192.168.10.2, 192.168.10.1,192.168.1.8
but i can’t ping/traceroute past 192.168.1.8 to host B which is 192.168.1.5
my traceroute goes from 192.168.3.1>192.168.10.1 then times out here.

there is no ACL anything whatsoever. I should get a tracert like this: 192.168.3.1>192.168.10.1>192.168.1.5
why doesn’t my ping/traceroute continue to 192.168.1.5??

The answer may be very simple but i’m missing it. I’m also new to networking. Please help.
