uninstalling trial version of Office 2003

A friend’s sony vaio came with atrial version of office 2003 which he let expire. We can’t get it uninstalled. Even Microsofts fix doesn’t work. Tried editing the registry, that didn’t work. Anyone have any ideas? Can’t install over it either.
