update to Re-installed Internet Explorer 6 keeps crashing or closing down

Hello everybody, i am glad to say that my pc seems to be running very nicely now. i havent done the re-install of the os yet. i just opened my pc, then IE6. immediately, the Microsoft download site opened, asking me to download IE7. i didnt waste any time! i saved the file and then proceeded to run the file, viola! i had IE7. after that everything went smoothly, i manually downloaded all the files i needed, including Firefox. hehe. now the only quirk is that automatic updates identifies the needed updates, but cant proceed to download and install the updates, which i did manually. whew. i saved all the updates in a folder, including SP2 and SP3. what could have caused IE6 to go instantly to the IE7 download prompt?
