USB device not responding but seen in Explorer?

I come across this issue often with older hardware.
I have a Samsung Yepp YP-T6 mp3 player and I really want to recover it so I can use it. It just needs to have it’s software reinstalled.

I have the Samsung updater to update the software but the problem is that the computer cannot access it (it is plugged in via USB).

So, I can see it has created a new drive letter in ‘My Computer’ (I’m using Windows 7) but for some reason it just isn’t seen.

I can also see it in the device manager.

Would anyone know how I could give it a bit of a jolt so the computer can see it? Is there maybe a command line tool for this sort of thing or a program which handles this type of problem?
