USB mouse on T42 IBM Thinkpad freeze

I have a T42 IBM Thinkpad notebook computer which is on Window XP Pro. USB optical mouse which is connected requently frozed. During this time I notice the event viewer shows “The General Purpose USB Driver (adildr.sys) service failed to start due to the following error. The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it.”
Each time when this happen, unplugging it and re-plugged the USB connector, problem goes away till next episode.
Hope that anyone could suggest any help?
