View Header/Footer in Word 2003 changes cursor shape

I hope someone can help with this problem. Using MS Word 2003: after going into ‘View Header/Footer’ and returning to print view, the cursor shape changes from normal I-bar to a small dot. Cannot change the cursor back to the normal I-bar. Can anyone help fix this annoyance.
