Volume control and taskbar

When ever I reboot the PC, I loose the volume icon in the task bar, even thought I continually check the box in properties to show it. (It keeps coming unchecked). Also, the internet connection icon doesn’t appear until I recheck the box for volume control.
This is too odd!
It would appear as if I have to edit the Reg to correct this.
Does anyone have any ideas?
