vpn and printing at home

Hello out there i am looking for help with vpn and printing. I currently am working from home and have an HP LJ4100 that i print to at home on my small network. When i vpn into work and want to print anything from there during my vpn session it does not print. However as soon as i disconect my vpn session the printer starts spitting out the jobs. My question is how do i set the printer up to print via my vpn session while i am still connected? My laptop is loaded with vista ad my network is wireless at home.thanks
