Web Development: Brick Wall

I own a prominant and growing company that thrives on whether or not my website is up and running, but there is a large problem that I have run into, that I would like some educated advice on. I have hired a Web Developer to put my website together for me & although I can see it through my service provider, no one else can. It doesn’t show up on any search engines and it’s not finished. I’ve already paid for the service, it’s still needs updating, & I am getting nowhere with this person. What are my options, can I hire someone else to finish the job?
