Website problems

Hi, everyone!

Recently, I’ve taken over the web editing for my church. I have updated pages here and there, but last night I finally found some time to sit down and really look at it. I don’t know the person who had handled this task in the past (it had been neglected for nearly a year), but it was a mess. The directory file structure was a nightmare, and the whole site took over an hour to post.

So… I thought I’d do a good thing a clean things up a bit. Step #1, I deleted all files from the remote server (it obviously hadn’t been cleaned up in a loooong time). Then I posted my revised version of the site. The problem is: I’m now getting the 403 Forbidden error.

No problem, I thought, “I’ll just repost the backup I made when I first retrieved the files from the server”. It didn’t work! Even with all of the original files in place, I’m seeing 403 Forbidden.

Before I broke it, when you would browse to www.mychurch.org/, you would be redirected to the default.htm file. I think that’s the piece I’m missing – the file that tells the server to redirect. I don’t know who handles the webhosting – I’ve requested this information, but haven’t heard back yet. I’m using Dreamweaver MX on my end.

Does anyone know what I can do to correct this mess???

Many thanks!
